Yes! We don’t have the facility to remove tyres, so you’ll need to get the tyres removed before you bring your wheels in. The local tyre stores are usually very accommodating in this, as you’ll need to buy tyres sometime down the track! This is how we keep our prices as affordable as possible!
Yes! Many of our customers claim the cost of the repair for their bent wheels, dents, cracked wheels and gutter scrapes from their insurance company, or from councils. If it wasn’t legal, they wouldn’t pay!
It depends on how busy we are when your wheel arrives in the workshop and how badly damaged your wheel is. Most Wheel Repairs such as gutter scrape/rash, bent wheels or cracked wheels will take 2-3 days if we aren’t busy, however it could be 4-6 days if we are busy, while repairing a missing section may take a little longer. Any cosmetic repairs will extend the turn-around time.
If you need Wheel Modifications, such as drilling/stud pattern changes, machining the back pad or machining the centre bore, these are a quick job while others such as widening, narrowing or to changing the offset will take a little longer. We try to do the work in the order that it comes in, to be fair to everyone!
The cost to repair any wheel depends on what damage has been done to it (i.e. gutter scrape, bent or cracked) and the size, design (cast, billet, 3 Piece) & cosmetics of the wheel (painted, CNC Machined, polished etc.). We can change stud patterns on most alloy wheels. When we change a stud pattern, we usually ‘move’ the holes using a Drill & Insert. We can only change the PCD by up to 8mm. If the existing holes are the smaller 14mm hole to fit a 12mm stud, then we can change the stud pattern by up to 8mm. If the existing holes are the larger 16mm hole for 14mm studs, then we can only change the stud pattern by up to 6mm. This cannot be done if the wheels have already been inserted.
No! The Spokes provide the strength and structure to the wheel, therefore it would not be safe to repair a cracked spoke. At Dr Wheels, we never lose sight of what is at stake. Safety is of utmost importance in each and every wheel repair. The lives of all road users comes first, so if it’s not safe to do, then Dr Wheels won’t do it!
The amount we can machine off is dependent on the thickness of the back pad. We need to leave a minimum of 5mm of parallel bolt hole remaining after we machine the wheel. Please note, this work cannot be done if the wheels have been inserted.
